Augusta Raurica is one of the most important archaeological sites from the Roman period in Switzerland. The site offers more than just impressive buildings to its visitors. It includes an amphitheatre which is still in use and an informative museum. In spring 2019 the Roman Museum decided to make some scenographic changes. An important part of this was the redesign of the signage in order to improve the orientation of the visitors both inside and outside. SUAN was commissioned with the design of the signage system and the corresponding icon concept. The concept is based on a grid especially designed for this purpose. It’s created from the components of the logo and thus fits harmoniously into the existing design elements of Augusta Raurica. With a clear, graphic language, the signage creates a balanced contrast to the ancient Roman remains and guides visitors skilfully to their destination.
